Renske Taminiau, born in 1979 as one of twin-daughters, is songwriter, performer, producer, orchestrator, painter and art-designer.
Ever since she was young she was torn between science and art: “singing and painting are my outlets when I need to clear my head of all the academic thinking.” When she was in her third year of her study medicine, she made a radical change. She quit her studies and enrolled in the Conservatory of Amsterdam
The band started out as an evening jam in the living room of a Conservatory Dormitory, where Renske and roommate Ruben Hein lived.
Renske Taminiau is recording her second album"Move Me". She will be recording with her band and will work on this record with the well-respected string quartet Matangi. Together they played a sold out series of concerts in the Concertgebouw of Amsterdam last year. This experience had such a positive influence on Renske's music and sound, that it was only natural that they would work together for the upcoming Album.
Renske's music has developed from a style, which was characterized as authentic in a three-dimensional world between jazz, pop and singer-songwriter, to a more distinct sound. She describes this direction as a logical flow to a further developed sound of a soulful singer-songwriter. She dares to take more risks, to crystallize her authentic sound. She used jazz chords in her storytelling, where the lyrics are the base for the song-construction. With great string-arrangements and horn-sections on the majority of her songs, this record will definitely be well constructed. With surprising arrangements she explores unconventional ways of using instruments. Renske and her band show craftsmanship, which is appealing to both musicians and music-lovers.
While writing the album "Move me", Renske chose a specific subject to be inspired by: movement in all its different aspects. She wrote songs about metamorphosis, dancing, procrastination, change, chain gangs, New York's attraction, and more songs that are all inspired by this one topic: movement. As an all round artist, she is making the artwork for the album herself. She's painting images, that she posts it on her site. Here her fans can bid on all these paintings, while getting a sneak-peak off the record's direction. They will be sold at auction at the start of summer this year.
She has posted movies of the process of making the paintings on YouTube, accompanied by the song that inspired them, (those songs are a preview of the songs on the album).
