Micheal Zerang is a composer, percussionist and improvisor. He has co-founded and performed with groups like Broken Wire, The Neutrino Orchestra, Trio Troppo and many others. He has been commissioned to write over 100 musical / sound compositions in collaboration with choreographers, theatre companies, performance artists, new music ensembles, and film & video makers. Zerang has recently collaborated and performed with many innovative musicians including AACM co-founder Fred Anderson, Mats Gustafsson and Jaap Blonk. He has recorded for VOXMEDIA, Okka Disc, Southport, Quinnah, Eighth Day Music, Garlic Records and the Platypus labels as well as many others. In 1995 and 1998, Zerang received a grant from The Chicago Artists International Program and traveled to Stockholm to perform and record with some of Sweden’s most innovative musicians, and to travel to Germany and Switzerland to perform with Fred Lonberg-Holm. In 1996 and 1998, Zerang received Joseph Jefferson Citation’s for original music composition for his work on Red Moon Theatres mask and puppet version of Frankenstein and The Ballad of Frankie and Johnny that premiered at the Steppenwolf Theatre in Chicago.
