Norrköping Symphony Orchestra

The Norrköping Symphony Orchestra (SON) was founded in 1912 and com- prises 85 players. In recent years the orchestra has won great acclaim both in Sweden and internationally for its concerts, recordings and tours. Many of the world’s foremost conductors have appeared with the Norrköping Symphony Orchestra, among them Herbert Blomstedt, Okko Kamu and Franz Welser- Möst.
Over the years many new works have been premièred in Norrköping. The orchestra gives regular concerts in Stockholm and has also performed interna- tionally, for instance at the Linz Bruckner Festival and on tours to Europe, Japan and China. Since 1994 the orchestra has been based at one of Sweden’s most beautiful concert halls, the Louis De Geer Concert Hall, situated in Norr- köping’s unique historic industrial district.  Among the orchestra’s many BIS recordings are critically acclaimed discs of Ingvar Lidholm’s orchestral music and a highly regarded series of Beethoven piano concertos with Ronald Brautigam (the disc featuring ‘No. 0’ and No. 2 won a Midem Classical Award in 2010). A disc entitled The Flight of Icarus, featuring works by the British composer John Pickard, was selected as Editor’s Choice by the prestigious British magazine Gramophone in June 2008.
