Bernharður Wilkinson

Bernharður Wilkinson began his musical studies at an early age as a chorister at Westminster Abbey in London. He later studied the flute at the Royal Nor- thern College of Music, and was appointed to the Iceland Symphony Orchestra in 1975. Outside of Iceland he has conducted a number of orch- estras, including the St Petersburg Philharmonic Orchestra and the Sofia Phil- harmonic Orchestra. He has premièred works by composers such as Atli Heimir Sveinsson, Sunleif Rasmussen and Haukur Tómasson, whose two flute con- certos he also conducts on a recording for BIS.
