"To me, the greatest pleasure of writing is not what it's about, but the music the words make." - Truman Capote

Reykjavík Chamber Orchestra

The Reykjavík Chamber Orchestra was founded in 1974 under the leadership of Rut Ingólfsdóttir, with the aim to present regular performances of chamber music from the baroque era to the twentieth century, as well as to provide musi- cians with varied and challenging performance opportunities.
The orchestra appears in diverse groupings ranging from 3 to 35 players; its size and instrumentation vary according to the projects at hand. Known for its wide-ranging repertoire, the RCO has premièred numerous Icelandic and foreign works, many of which have been composed especially for it. The orchestra has collaborated with a number of distinguished conductors, including Vladimir Ashkenazy, Jaap Schröder and Reinhard Goebel. Performing regularly both in Iceland and abroad, the RCO is a frequent guest at the Reykjavík Arts Festival and has appeared at numerous international music festivals. It has recorded extensively for Icelandic radio and television.
