Cuarteto Quiroga

Cuarteto Quiroga, recently appointed quartet-in-residence in charge of the Royal Collection of decorated Stradivarius instruments at Madrid's Royal Palace, has established itself as one of the most dynamic and unique quartets of its generation. The quartet has won international acclaim from critics and audiences alike for its distinctive personality as wel as its bold and original approach to the string quartet repertoire.  The group takes its name from the Galician violinist Manuel Quiroga, one of the most outstanding string players in Spanish music history together with Pau Casals and Pablo Sarasate.
The quartets first 2 CD albums, released with COBRA Records, Statements/COBRA 0035 (Haydn, Webern & Sollima) and (R)evolutions/COBRA 0037 (Schönberg, Webern, Berg) have received worldwide the enthusiastic applause from both the audience and the specialized press.
Prizewinners of several major international string quartet competitions (Bordeaux, Beijing, Fnapec-Paris, Palau Barcelona, amoung others) the quartet regularly appears at main halls and festivals in Europa and America; Wigmore Hall London, Philharmonie Berlin, Les Invalides Paris, Concertgebouw Amsterdam, Auditorio Nacional Madrid, Frick Collection New York, National Gallery Washington DC, Davos Festival, Auditori de Barcelona, Stockholm's Nybrokajen, amoung others.
The Cuarteto Quiroga has been recorded an broadcast by RNE, SWR2, SwedishRadio, BBC3, FranceMusique, WDR, Rai MEZZO TV, etc.
The quartet fequently collaborate with musicians such as Valentin Erben, Alain Meunier, Javier Perianes, Vladimir Mendelssohn, Jeremy Manuhin, David Kadouch, choreographer Hideto Heshiki, theatre director Peter Ries and Spanich actor Jose Luis Gomez.
At prensent, the quartet is Quartet-in-Residence at the Fundacion Museo Cerralbo, their home in Madrid. Its four menberts teach at the International Summer Academy of Llanes (Asturias, Spain) and hold the String Quartet Chair at the Conservatorio Superior de Musica de Aragon (Zaragoza, Spain). As a corollary of their firm commitment to chamber music education, they are often invited to give masterclasses and courses at several major Spanish, Dutch, Swedish and Latin American festivals, universities and conservatoires, as well as the Spanish National Youth Orchestra (JONDE).
