"Music: Breath of the statues. Perhaps: Silence of images. Your language where languages end" - Rainer Maria Rilke

Wen-Sinn Yang

Since winning first prize at the Geneva International Music Competition in 1991, the cellist Wen-Sinn Yang has been in great demand at major concert venues and music festivals in Europe and Asia. As a soloist with such orchestras as the Bava- rian Radio Symphony Orchestra, NHK Symphony Orchestra (Tokyo), Shanghai Symphony Orchestra, Suisse Romande Orchestra and St Paul Chamber Orchestra he has collaborated with conductors including Sir Colin Davis, Lorin Maazel and Mariss Jansons. Born in Bern into a family originally from Taiwan, he studied under Claude Starck in Zürich and Wolfgang Boettcher in Berlin. As well as working as first cellist of the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra – with which he has appeared regularly as a soloist – in 2005 he was appointed professor at the Munich University of Music and Performing Arts.
