Enjott Schneider

Enjott Schneider was born in 1950, studied in Freiburg, and taught from 1979 to 2012 at the University of Music and Performing Arts Munich (music theory, religious music composition, film music composition). He is a writer of music theoretical works and composer of eight evening-length operas such as Das Salome-Prinzip, Bahnwärter Thiel, Fürst Pückler, and Orbe Rotundo as well as numerous orchestral and chamber music works. Religious music is also an important part of his compositional output, with oratorios, organ concertos, and 16 organ symphonies. His music has been performed extensively in Paris, Rome, Madrid, New York, Los Angeles, Tokyo, Shanghai, Beijing, and Taipei. 

In addition, Schneider has written music for some 600 films. Among the awards he has received are an Emmy Award in 2005 for “Das Drama von Dresden” (Best Documentary, broadview-tv Cologne), the Bavarian Film Prize for the music for “Rama Dama” (directed by Joseph Vilsmaier), the Bundesfilmband Gold for the music for “Leise Schatten” (directed by Sherry Hormann) and “Wildfeuer” (directed by Jo Baier), the 2001 Fipa d’or for the best European film music for “Jahrestage” (directed by Margarethe von Trotta). For his music for television he has been awarded the Deutscher Fernsehpreis for the best music for “Nicht alle waren Mörder” (directed by Jo Baier) in 2007 and for “Die Flucht” (directed by Kai Wessel) in 2009. 

He has been a member of the GEMA supervisory board since 2003 and chairman since 2012. He has been a member of the board of the German Music Council and president of the German Composers Association.
