Elly Ameling

Dutch soprano Elly Ameling is world-renowned for her interpretations of German and French songs by composers such as Schubert, Wolf and Fauré. She also sung soprano parts in oratorios. Her recording of Mahlers Fourth Symphony under Bernard Haitink from 1968 was considered as a standard for years.
During her career, which lasted for 43 years, she performed all over the world. She sung with stars such as Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau and Gérard Souzay en was accompanied by pianists like Dalton Baldwin, Gerald Moore, Rudolf Jansen and Jörg Demus.
On 29 January 1996 Ameling said goodbye to her audience with a recital in the main hall of the Concertgebouw Amsterdam, in which some of her musical friends also performed. She continued to give masterclasses on the French and German song within the Netherlands and abroad. Some of them have been broadcast on television.
