After completing her college studies at Toho Gakuen School of Music, the pianist Yumiko Meguri continued her studies with Prof. György Sebök at Indiana University. Since returning to Japan, she has been active in her country’s music scene. Many of her recitals have been selected as among the “Best 10 Concerts of the Year.” She has performed as a soloist with orchestras such as the Nagoya Philharmonic Orchestra, the Tokyo Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra, the New Japan Philharmonic Orchestra, the All Japan Symphony, and the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra. Meguri has recorded and released albums ranging from classical to modern and contemporary music. Furthermore, she works closely with composers such as Keiko Harada, Atsuhiko Gondai, Andras Hamary and Hope Lee, and has premiered many new works. Since 2007, Meguri has directed the Tessera Music Festival, “atarashii-mimi” (New Ears), that runs twice a year in Tokyo. In recent years, Yumiko has been invited to perform in various contemporary music festivals held in Germany, Canada, Italy, etc. Currently, Meguri is a professor at the Toho Gakuen School of Music in Tokyo.
