"Music is ... A higher revelation than all Wisdom & Philosophy" - Ludwig van Beethoven

Arte dei Suonatori

The orchestra Arte dei Suonatori was formed in Poznań (Poland) in 1993 by the violin players Ewa and Aureliusz Goliński and collected a group of young period-instrument performers. The core of the ensemble originally consisted of Polish string and continuo players, but over the years the orchestra has become more international, featuring as regular members musicians from Germany, Eng- land, Holland, Japan, France, Finland and other countries. In 1998, after five years of intermittent activity, the orchestra’s leaders, together with Cezary Zych, editor of the early music magazine Canor, initiated an extensive series of early music events called ‘Early Music – Persona Grata’. Since 2003, Arte dei Suona- tori has been resident orchestra at five Polish festivals: the Handel Festival in Torun, the Three Baroques Festival in Wrocław, Music in Paradise in Paradyż, and in Poznań the Baroque Strings and Bows Festival and Vivaldi Days. The orchestra is also a regular feature at the MidsommerBarok festival in Copen- hagen.
Arte dei Suonatori have worked with a number of well-known artists, such as Rachel Podger, Hidemi Suzuki, Alexis Kossenko, Maria Keohane and the re- corder player Dan Laurin, with whom Arte dei Suonatori have recorded works by Telemann [BIS-1185] as well as Vivaldi’s Four Seasons [BIS-1605]. A previous col- laboration with Martin Gester resulted in a highly acclaimed set of Handel’s 12 Concerti grossi, Op. 6 [BIS-1705/06], while the latest release from the ensemble, concertos for strings by Vivaldi [BIS-1845], has met with critical praise: ‘I’ve not heard another period-instrument ensemble in this repertoire that can match the combination of executional discipline, rhythmic thrust, spirited verve, and feeling of freshness that Arte dei Suonatori brings.’ (Fanfare)
