"Where words leave off, music begins." - Heinrich Heine

Konzerthaus Kammerorchester Berlin

The new Kammerorchester of the Konzerthaus Berlin, founded in 2009, wants to “dare more democracy”: Whether in the selection of the programme, the line-up, or the selection of soloists and conductors – all members are involved in the decisions. The usual hierarchies of the large symphony orchestra which classify the musicians as soloists, section principals and the rest of the section have been abandoned. Only the position of concertmaster has been maintained, so that democracy does not turn into an- archy. The Kammerorchester is made up of members of the Konzerthausorchester and has its own concert series in the Berlin Konzerthaus. The artistic director is Sayako Kusaka, first concertmaster of the Konzerthausorchester Berlin. In 2012, the Konzerthaus Kammerorchester made a guest appearance together with Misha Maisky at the Storioni Festival in Eindhoven, Netherlands. In the same year, the CD “Recomposed by Max Richter: Vivaldi – The Four Seasons” was released on Deutsche Grammophon with violinist Daniel Hope as the soloist, which then promptly received an Echo Klassik award. In the summer of 2015, the orchestra was invited to Japan where they gave five highly acclaimed concerts. A further invitation for 2017 followed immediately.
