Finnur Bjarnason

Finnur Bjarnason began singing studies in his native Iceland and continued in London, at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. He began his operatic career at Glynde - bourne before joining the Komische Oper in Berlin in 2003. He has subsequently appeared at the Berlin Staatsoper, the Châtelet and the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées in Paris, Munich Staatsoper and the opera houses in Leipzig, Amsterdam and Strasbourg and at Aix-en-Provence, with conductors including René Jacobs, Myung-Whun Chung, Emmanuelle Haïm, Christophe Rousset, Ivor Bolton, Kirill Petrenko and Marc Minkow - ski. In 2011 Finnur Bjarnason created the role of Apollo in Manfred Trojahn’s Orest at the Netherlands Opera and more recently sang the title role in Mozart’s La clemenza di Tito in Taipei. He is also devoted to the song repertoire and has appeared in numerous recitals and recordings. Örn Magnússon graduated from the Akureyri Music College in the north of Iceland and then went on to further studies in Manchester, Berlin and London. He is a highly active and sought-after musician, participating in a rich variety of concerts and recordings, both as a soloist and a chamber musician, having performed in Scandinavia, the United King - dom and many other European countries as well as Japan. He is particularly known for his interest and devotion to Icelandic music, old and new, especially the music of the towering figure amongst Icelandic composers, Jón Leifs, whose complete works for solo piano he has recorded (BIS-692). Örn Magnússon was awarded the Icelandic Music Prize in 2001. In recent years he has been more active in sacred and religious music and is currently organist and choirmaster at Breiðholtskirkja (Breiðholt Church) in Reykjavik.
