The Tapiola Sinfonietta (Espoo City Orchestra) is known for its broad and diverse repertoire and also for occasionally performing without a conductor. Founded in 1987, the Tapiola Sinfonietta has grown from a string ensemble to a Viennese Clas - sical orchestra with 43 members. The Tapiola Sinfonietta engages in long-term cooperation with its artists in association, among them the highly praised Finnish 8 con ductor and cellist Klaus Mäkelä, the Swiss conductor Mario Venzago, the Rus - sian pianist Alexander Melnikov and the Finnish guitarist Marzi Nyman. The orch - estra has an impressive guest list of prominent conductors and soloists. It also puts on concerts of chamber music and engages in bold cross-genre projects. The orch - estra performs on a regular basis also at schools, hospitals, clinics and nursing homes in the city of Espoo. The Tapiola Sinfonietta regularly appears at festivals in Finland and has toured in Europe, Asia and the USA. Its 70-title discography is internationally recognized.
