Maria Kowan

The Canadian mezzo-soprano MARIA KOWAN (Eve) studied in British Columbia, Toronto, Siena, Aldeburgh and at the Tanglewood Music Center in the United States. In Canada, she has sung the roles of Cherubino in Le nozze di Figaro, Flora in La traviata, Hänsel in Hänsel und Gretel, Stéphano in Roméo et Juliette, Siébel in Faust, Frédéric in Mignon and Dorabella in Così fan tutte. In England, she has sung Dritte Dame in Die Zauberflöte and Nancy in Albert Herring. Her repertoire includes roles like Meg Page in Falstaff, La Ciesca in Gianni Schicchi and Sorceress/Second Woman in Dido and Aeneas, and Georges Aperghis’ opera De la nature de l’eau (world premiere). Maria Kowan has worked with conductors like Richard Bradshaw, Yannick Nézet-Séguin, Seiji Ozawa, Jonathan Darlington and Robert Spano, sung with the symphony orchestras of Victoria and Toronto, and the Residentie Bachorkest, and guested with the Canadian Opera Company, Vancouver Opera, Nevada Opera and Edmonton Opera. She has previously performed with Dutch National Opera in Raaff and has worked regularly as a freelancer with the Chorus of DNO since 2008.
