"Where words leave off, music begins." - Heinrich Heine

François Lindemann

François Lindemann’s career as a musician has spanned more than 25 years and the entire globe. After studying at Lausanne’s Conservatory, he took his musical training into his own hands, discovering jazz through Clifford Brown and Coltrane’s quartet in the 1960s. He had put together his own orchestra and was composing original music by 1969. Closely affiliated with the period’s “free” movement, he honed his craft in local clubs before forming the group CM4 in 1974. He toured in Europe and the States in the eighties and nineties, playing with such famous musicians as Carla Bley, Robin Eubanks, Curtis Fuller and Woody Shaw. In 1986 he founded an ensemble entitled Piano Seven, made up of seven Steinways, bringing in top-notch new artists each year: Pascal Auberson, François Guye, and classical pianist Brigitte Meyer…François Lindemann has particularly deep ties to Asia, playing a fusion of contemporary jazz and the traditional music of Thailand.
