"Music: Breath of the statues. Perhaps: Silence of images. Your language where languages end" - Rainer Maria Rilke

Réalta

Réalta means star in Irish and the trio with this name is just about to shine bright at the horizon of Irish music. The singer and guitar player Deirdre Galway collects lyrical songs in Irish as well as in English. She is accompanied by Conor Lamb and Aaron O’Hagan on flutes and whistles. With their imaginative harmonies and ornamentations they decorate Deirdre’s vocal lines nicely. But the constellation of these three new bright stars has even more to offer. When the lads fire up their uilleann pipes things start to become very lively. The uilleann pipes are an authentic traditional Irish instrument with a beautifully distinctive sound. They differ from many other bag pipes in that they offer a two octave range and can provide their own chordal accompaniment using regulators. Uilleann pipers have the reputation of being mavericks and if they team up it is rather unusual. When a dozen reeds resonate in unison this sound experience can be only topped by an organ. Driven by Deirdre’s lively guitar you get a very compact sound which Réalta can claim to be their very own. This constellation of three stars is a good example of how you can create with few ingredients but a lot of imagination and cleverness, a unique and distinctive sound. Réalta - a sound very much from the heart of the Irish music universe.
