Challenge Records @ North Sea Jazz 2010
Last week the program of the North Sea Jazz Festival 2010 was announced with an official press conference in Rotterdam. This year, Challenge Records will be represented through a great deal of artists: Joris Posthumus Quartet, Jungle Boldie, The Ploctones and Eric Vloeiman's Fugimundi.
Joris Posthumus released his debut album The Abyss this spring.
"On the Abyss, it stands out how the chemistry, tension and interaction between Posthumus, Van Vliet, Juriaan Dekker and Pascal Vermeer come Together in a beautiful weaving piece. Nine songs of modern hard bop (now-bop) in which the melody and a certain accessibility stand at the heart." Amanda Kuyper - NRC Handelsblad
Jungle Boldie just released their first album under the new name of Jungle Boldie. "With Jungle Boldie the trio started a new chapter of a musical
adventure that has been lasting for over 20 years now. The fact that this
is a real trio, makes this album a feast for the ears." HP
The Ploctones have been really succesfull with their album 050. "Only a few bands can play a lot different kinds of music and bring it so convincing with their own sound." André Dadi, Jazz
Fugimundi is a regular on the Dutch Jazz stages. Eric Vloeimans' band with Anton Goudsmit and Harmen Fraanje has toured the world with their latest album Live at Yoshis. ECM Records will be represented with 5 great artists: Anouar Brahem, Tord Gustavson, Thomasz Stanko, Nik Bartsch' Ronin and Marcin Wasilewski. Anouar Brahem released The Astounding Eyes of Rita last fall. In January, Tord Gustavsen brought us the new album Restored, Returned. Dark Eyes of Thomasz Stanko was released also last fall. ECM Records is expecting a new album from Nik Bartsch' band Ronin.
ACT artist Vijay Ijer is nominated for the Paul Acket Award and will also be playing at the North Sea Jazz Festival. His album Historicity was released last fall on ACT Music.
