October 18th Simone Lamsma Podium Witteman

16-10-2015 October 18th Simone Lamsma Podium Witteman

The new album by Simone Lamsma and Robert Kulek with works by Schumann, Mendelssohn and Janáček will be presented at the concert in the Muziekgebouw aan het IJ in Amsterdam, October 24th. The day after that, Simone will give a special kidsconcert (8+) about the violin also in the Muziekgebouw.

In planning this debut album, it was important to both Simone Lamsma and Robert Kulek that they were passionate about the repertoire  they chose to record. They also wanted to seize the opportunity to include substantial, but lesser played, works for violin and piano, so that they would perhaps be able to introduce this exceptional music to new audiences. Above all, the selections needed to work together as a complete recital programme, a listening experience that is beautiful as a whole.

The starting point was the Schumann second sonata, a work that they have long played together. Schumann’s language is so personal, and not always easy to grasp; however Lamsma and Kulek both feel a close connection to his music and to this sonata in particular. It is innovative, spirited, energetic and grand – yet subtle and sublime.

The very fresh and lyrical Mendelssohn sonata, is a jewel of a work, and the impassioned and challenging Janáček sonata made for a varied programme. Lamsma and Kulek instinctively knew this would work beautifully.

Simone Lamsma and Robert Kulek have played together for many years now, and there is a great musical understanding between them. The recording process is always an educational, rewarding and valuable experience. It allows one to gain new insights into these wonderful works and those who composed them.

Simone Lamsma and Robert Kulek will appeared on Sunday October 18, in the Dutch TV show Podium Witteman.
(@46:45 minutes in the programme)

In the new and upcoming issue of Luister Magazine, Simone has a big coverstory, an in-depth interview!
And Opium (Radio 4) will also have Simone in the studio as a live guest on October 22nd.

All in all a lot of things happening around this great release and the fact that in the Netherlands this CD is part of the Aangenaam Klassiek campaign makes it a very affordable treasure. Low in price until end of January 2016!
