In it's four star review of this CD the "Penguin Guide to Jazz on CD" says "Morton's all-embracing mastery of the keyboard makes these solos a sublimation of everything jazz had done up to this point - the music remains utterly compelling - testament to Morton's greatness - essential music Retrieval's re-issue, which includes the four solos from Vocalion in 1926, is certainly our first choice. What more can we say, except that it's an essential CD for inclusion in any jazz collection worthy of the name.
