Over the last 12 years JARABEDEPALO has catapulted itself to the zenith of the music scene in Spain. Led by Pau Donés, the band’s ‘mastermind’, 7 albums have resulted in a number of Latin Grammies, Grammies and nominations. With over 4 million audio recordings sold worldwide and their work together with such stars as Celia Cruz, Compay Segundo, Chrissy Hynde and Ricky Martin, the group has established itself as one of the world’s leading Mestizo acts. Mestizo stands for a very much stand-alone blend of Rock, Blues, Funk, Pop, Flamenco, Cuban Son, Puerto Rican Salsa, Samba and Bossa nova. A textured mixture comprised of styles and sounds, borne by a message that carries the music well beyond pure entertainment. And in the case of Pau Donés, a message that always displays social comitment and a political stance.
¿Y AHORA QUE HACEMOS?, available on Tronco Records in Spain starting March 1st, and on SKIP Records in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, France and the Benelux countries: 12 brand-new, solidly rockin’ songs and a wonderful Spanish rendition of “Je l'aime a mourir”, the legendary classic by Frances Gabrel, together with Alejandro Sanz, current Grammy winner for the Best Latin Pop Album. The first video of this version is included. In the booklet to the CD Pau Donés gives a charming account in English of how the idea for the album originated: All of the tracks deal with love and freedom as the first step in attaining happiness. But hey – the complete original lyrics to all the tracks are included in Spanish, too. Alongside Alejandro Sanz, Pau invited several other illustrious partners to vocalize with: Joaquín Sabina, a greatly respected songwriter from Andalusia, on “Hice Mal Algunas Cosas”, the rebellious singer-songwriter Antonio Orozco from Barcelona on “Frio”, as well as Carlos Tarque, the lead singer with the popular Rock band M Clan from Murcia, on “Fin”. The very fact that they all eagerly accepted meant that Jarabedepalo has united vocalists from the north to the south of Spain on this album – a meaningful statement for the country’s many ‘local patriots’! Pau Donés describes the quintessence of the new album like this: “Jarabedepalo makes a return to the Pop-Rock sound. Thumping drums, heavy bass, irreverent guitars, good lyrics and great tunes.”
Live, Jarabedepalo is made up of: singer, guitarist, composer and lyricist Pau Donés, Carmen Niño on bass, Dani Baraldes and Jordi Busquets on guitars, and Alex Tenas on drums. Featured studio guests on the new album include Toni Saigl on piano and Jimmy Jiménez on saxophone.
