About the album

Trumpeter Thomas Fryland began his career in 1993 with a sensatio- nal debut CD. Since then he has been very active on the Danish and Dutch jazz scenes. In 1998 he became a member of the acclaimed DR Big Band and one of the orchestra’s foremost soloists. He has recorded several CDs in his own name and even more as a member of the big band.

He has now left the orchestra to concentrate on his own music. He has chosen to celebrate his independence with this charming relea- se in collaboration with the famous American pianist and arranger Jim McNeely. McNeely has been a member of Stan Getz’s, Chet Baker’s, Art Farmer’s and Phil Woods’ groups, conducted the Thad Jones/Mel Lewis Orchestra and been the leader of the DR Big Band - which is where he met Thomas Fryland. McNeely’s fluid piano style is a perfect match for Fryland’s well-turned, brass-textured bebop. This is a genuine jazz record. Recorded in drummer Aage Tangaard’s studio, the musical picture is completed by Jesper Lunggaard’s lus- cious bass playing.
