About the album

Hans Ulrik is one of the most acclaimed and popular Danish saxophonists. His catalogue is living proof that jazz records can be modern, artistically substantial, enticing and smooth listening - all at the same time. Jazz & Mambo received a Danish Music Award in 1999 and became a genuine jazz hit, selling over 15.000 copies. Tribal Dance is Ulrik’s first recording in front of a classic jazz trio: tenor sax, grand piano, double bass and drums.

The repertoire consists of original material composed by the band leader himself, and the musical lineage leads back to the golden Blue Note years as well as to the lyrical sound of Scandinavian jazz. This is modern, melodic jazz with an unmistakable groove fronted by a saxophone virtuoso. Touching, well-structured, with a deeply personal sound, and played with Ulrik’s characteristic vigor in close collaboration with a handful of Scandinavia’s finest musicians.
