About the album
A lot of compositions and lyrics of “Marianne's Bag” were written while Marianne was studying in Kopenhagen. The songs are sometimes playful, as well as sober Nordic and than again pushy and moving. With her warm voice, Marianne tells a story of loneliness, love, of dreams and incredible things of this world. The playful freedom in the music allow the musicians to be on the same level with the singer and produce a close band sound. The string quartet blends in seamlessly to a variety of sounds and brings a lot of excitement and viruosity. The strings effortlessly merge with the voice, beguile, take off, put on and pulsate with the rhythm.
For years, Marianne plays together with pianist Niculin Christen and drummer Tino Siegrist. After searching for a long time, she searched for a bass player to complete the quartet. Bass player Kaspar von Grünigen is the finishing member of the quartet. The quartet all four met at the School for Music in Basel. For their graduation concert in 2007, Marianne completed it with a string quartet. Since than, the band only performed as an octet.
