This is Volume 36 of the Swiss Radio Days Jazz Live Concert Series, featuring 4 great tenor saxophonists of the post Be-bop area and guests of the Jazz Live Trio. The highlights of these 4 concerts were recorded in 1975 (Johnny Griffin), 1980 (Hal Singer), 1979 (Leszek Zadlo) and 1978 (Ferdinand Povel).

The live concerts at the radio studio in Zurich started in 1969 and took place regularly until 1984 and documented the intense situation in Jazz in Switzerland in this period.

Ferdinand Povel

Ferdinand Povel (Haarlem, 1947) is one of the foremost Dutch tenor- and alto saxophone players. After winning the 1964 Loosdrecht Jazz Concours, he toured Europe in 1969 with Dusko Goykovich and in 1971 with the Kenny Clarke – Fancy Boland big band, and in the USA with Maynard Ferguson in 1973. Since 1978 he is teaching sax at three Dutch conservatories and simultaneously leading tenor and alto saxophonist with the Skymasters to accompany many famous soloists.
