About the album
The virtuoso musician and talented lyricist Compay Segundo is one of Cuba's musical legends, who made his true mark on the international music scene. With a cigar between his teeth and his trademark cream-coloured Panama hat on his head, Compay Segundo played the armónico (a 7-stringed guitar that he himself invented) like no one else on earth.
After the death of this charismatic musician, in July 2003, his son, Salvador Repilado, took over as leader of the Grupo Compay Segundo. As the double-bass player of the group, he had taken part with his father and Hugo Garzon in the Buena Vista Social Club project, which included ‘Chan Chan’, a piece that is instantly recognisable the world over. That song has now inspired this new show.
