About the album

Trilogy is aptly named, 3 CD set by the virtuosic trio of Chick Corea on piano, Christian McBride on bass and Brian Blade on drums.  Recorded live, during two different world tours with this group, the tracks chosen amount to nearly three and a half hours of music.  Locations include Austria, Japan, Slovenia, Spain, Switzerland, Turkey and the United States. Corea calls the trio experience with McBride and Blade “a joyful exploration,” adding, “There’s a certain chemistry that happens, which is really difficult to describe – it’s simply that thing that happens when the three of us get together to play.  I know I find myself trying things that I wouldn’t normally try.   A live album like this is the next best thing to being there, a snapshot of special moments in musical time that we can share.”
Highlights include a terrific version of Chick’s own “Spain” and new composition “Homage” which was written in tribute to Paco de Lucia.  There are also entries from the Great American Songbook including “My Foolish Heart’, “It Could Happen to You” and “How Deep is the Ocean”.  Disc 3 opens with the epic and never before recorded “Piano Sonata: Moon” which clocks in around 30 minutes.  Special guests on three tracks include flutist Jorge Pardo, guitarist Niño Josele and Chick’s wife, vocalist Gayle Moran Corea, on the sets final track “Someday My Prince Will Come”.
