"One good thing about music, when it hits you, you feel no pain." - Bob Marley

The Gewandhausorchester is a symphonie orchestra in Leipzig, Germany. It counts around 175 members, which makes it the largest professional orchestra in the world. Riccardo Chailly is chief director since 2005. Its name comes from the Gewandhaus, a concert building in Leipzig. Its current name was adopted in 1781. The first Kapellmeister of the orchestra was Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy.
The orchestra is the oldest middle-class orchestra of Germany. It is one of the few remaining orchestras in Europe with its own sound and style. The collectedness, mild sound and fine combined play are notable.
