Concerto Köln is known for its passionate playing and the uninterrupted delight in the search fort he unknown. For over 30 years, the orchestra with its unmistakeable sound has ranked among the leading ensembles for historically informed performance practice. Concerto Köln represents outstanding performances of early music. It is firmly rooted in the musical life of Cologne, but performs at the same time in de musical metropoles of the world and at renowned festivals.
  Although the orchestra keeps focused on early music, it has extended its repertoire with 19th-century works. The orchestra received international attention with the three-year research project Wagner Lesearten, which launched in the season 2017-2018. The aim of this project by Concerto Köln and Kent Nagano is a performance of Richard Wagner’s tetralogy Der Ring des Nibelungen from the perspective of historically informed performance practice. In Spring 2019, Concerto Köln performs 19th-century repertoire for the first time during two concerts in the Kölner Philharmonie.
