"If you were music, I would listen to you ceaselessly, and my low spirits would brighten up." - Anna Akhmatova

Józef Elsner

Józef Elsner is primarily known as the teacher of Frédéric Chopin, but he also composed many symphonic works, chamber works, religious works, solo works and 38 operas. He was one of the first composers in Poland to weave elements of folk music into his works. From 1799 until 1824, he was the principal conductor at Warsaw's National Theater, where he premiered a number of his operas.
