Stephan Plecher

Born in 1990, Stephan Plecher received classical piano lessons at the local music school in Cham (GER) since the age of five and soon started developing his passion for improvisation and Jazz music. After several workshops and lessons with a.o. Martin Schrack and Rob Bargad, he joined the Bavarian Youth Jazz Orchestra conducted by Harald Rüschenbaum in 2006. In the same year, he began extraordinary studies in Jazz-piano at Musikhochschule Nürnberg with Martin Schrack, which he continued until the year of 2010. From 2011 to 2015, he studied Jazz-piano at the Konservatorium Wien Privatuniversität with Aaron Wonesch and Oliver Kent, as well as Jazz-composition and -arrangement with Andy Middleton from 2012 to 2013. Since 2015, he complements his education with a Master's studies at the Hochschule für Musik Basel with Lester Menezes.
Stephan Plecher won a first price at the Bavarian youth contest “Jugend Jazzt”, solo piano in 2004 and 2006; His band “Station 5” was awarded a price at the same contest in 2008, as well as at the international band contest “Startbahn Jazz” in Straubing (GER) in 2010. In 2012, he was chosen to represent the Conservatory of the City of Vienna at the annual meeting of the IASJ association in Graz (AUT) and became awardee at the Marianne Mendt Youth Sponsorship. The Stephan Plecher Trio, founded in 2013, was still in the same year awarded with a grant and a special jury price at the conservatory's “Fidelio” contest. In 2014, Stephan Plecher won the 4th International Jazzhaus Piano Competition in Freiburg (GER) and the main award at the “Generations Masterclasses” in Frauenfeld (CH).
