Weinberg's rarely released violin concerto played by Linus Roth!

The new album of the German violinist Linus Roth is now available: "Violin Concertos". The album contains works of Britten and Weinberg's rarely released violin concerto. On this album Roth collaborates with the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin conducted by Mihkel Kütson.

After winning the Echo Klassik Award for his EMI debut album in 2006, Linus Roth has made a name for himself both as one of the most interesting violinists of his generation and as a champion of wrongly forgotten works and composers. He is deeply interested in Weinberg. His earlier release of his violin sonatas (together with pianist José Gallardo) got great reviews:

"Roth and Galardo play these compositions so striking, evident and internalized that any following artists will have to compete with this recording." Ensemble, 2013

The new album contains Mieczyslaw Weinberg's violin concerto (1959) which was dedicated to Leonid Kogan, one of the biggest violinists of the Sovjet period. It has rarely been released on cd before. For this album, Roth has also recorded Benjamin Britten's violin concerto. Britten's opus 15 was written upon his and his partner Peter Pears's arrival in America, just before the Second World War. The violin concerto is the only of Britten's concertos which has attained international fame and repertoire status.
