"Everything in the universe has a rhythm, everything dances." - Maya Angelou

Klimt!

Klimt! was founded in 1993. Three of the members are section leaders of the internationally-known Metropole Orchestra, and the fourth has played with groups like Flairck (pop-folk) and the Willem Breuker Kollektief (jazz). With this background, the desire to include jazz and other forms of popular music in the repertoire was inevitable; it has given the group a unique place in Dutch string quartet culture. Klimt! has worked with internationally known artists such as Elvis Costello, Brad Mehldau, Gino Vanelli and Paul Weller, and has recorded a number of CD’s with Dutch stars such as Marco Borsato, Paul de Leeuw, Herman Finkers and Guus Meeuwis. On the jazz circuit Klimt! has recorded with Lee Konitz (saxophone), Loet van der Lee (trumpet) and Jan Verwey (harmonica), and has performed with singer Fleurine in the Amsterdam Concertgebouw. The impressive ‘Symbiosis’ by Claus Ogermann was recorded with Saxion V in the spring of 2008. The monumental ‘Suite for String Quartet and Orchestra’ by Bob Brookmeyer, performed with the Metropole Orchestra, has recently been released by Challenge Jazz (CHR70136).
