Giuseppe Torelli

Born in 1658, Giuseppe Torelli was one of the biggest composers of this time, He studied violin at the cathedral of San Petrino, his birth city. Later, he studied with Giacomo Perti in Bologna. Giuseppe Torelli is mostly known for his Trumpet Concertos. He was one of the most prolific composers for trumpet of his age. Yet, he also composed plenty of music for strings and from 1668 he was the violist of the "Accademia Filarmonica" in Bologna. At a later time, he also been kapelmeister for ten years in Bavaria. After a short stay in Vienna, he returned to Bologna where he died in 1709. His manuscripts are still preserved in the San Petrino church. 

Torelli is also known as the teacher of Francesco Manfredini and his brother, Felice Torelli, had a moderate repuration as a painter in Bologna.
