David Humphreys is Assistant Director of Music at Peterborough Cathedral, where his duties include accompanying and directing the Cathedral Choir on a daily basis. He has held the post since moving from a similar role at St Edmundsbury Cathedral in October 2011, a time that has included two terms as Acting Director of Music, when he was responsible for the Cathedral’s entire music programme, including all the provision for choral services.
David is increasingly in demand as a recitalist, playing at venues including Westminster and St Paul’s Cathedrals. Alongside his solo work, David has played continuo for groups such as the Britten Sinfonia, Saraband Consort and Charivari Agréable, and taught for the University of Cambridge and Oundle for Organists.
David has made numerous appearances on BBC radio and television, accompanying and directing choirs live on BBC Radio 3, and toured widely across Europe. He has played for a number of royal engagements, including, whilst at St Edmundsbury Cathedral, the Office for the Royal Maundy in the presence of Her Majesty the Queen.
