Andrei Bondarenko

The Ukrainian baritone Andrei Bondarenko has been a member of the Mariin- sky Academy of Young Singers since 2007, performing in leading roles. A prizewinner at several competitions, he was the recipient of the 2011 BBC Cardiff Singer of the World competition song prize. Recent highlights include a solo recital in Carnegie Hall (his North American début), as well as an invita- tion by the Salzburg Festival to sing The Emperor in Le Rossignol. The 2011–12 season saw Andrei Bondarenko’s role début as Pelléas at the Mariinsky Theatre under the baton of Valery Gergiev, as well as his first appearances with Glynde- bourne Touring Opera (Malatesta, Don Pasquale) and Glyndebourne Festival Opera (Marcello, La Bohème). Most recently he has given his role débuts as Eugene Onegin (at the Bolshoi Theatre, Minsk) and Billy Budd (at the Mikhai- lovsky Theatre in St Petersburg).
