"After silence that which comes nearest to expressing the inexpressible is music." - Aldous Huxley

Johann Bernhard Bach

Johann Bernhard Bach was a German composer, organist and harpsichordist. He was a second cousin of Johann Sebastian Bach: Johann Bernhard's grandfather Johann Bach was the oldest brother of Johann Sebastian's grandfather Christoph Bach. Johann Sebastian's first wife, Maria Barbara Bach, was likewise related to Johann Bernhard: her grandfather, Heinrich Bach, was the third and youngest brother of Johann Bach.  Johann Bernhard was born in Erfurt and received his first educations from his father, Johann Aegidus Bach. In 1695, he became organist in Erfurt, and later in Magdeburg. He replaced Johann Christoph Friedrich Bach as organist in Eisenach and harpsichordist of the local court orchestra.
Only four orchestral works have survived by Johann Bernhard Bach, all of them in Johann Sebastian Bach's handwriting. These works are composed in the style of Georg Philip Telemann's orchestral suites.
