Jurriaan Andriessen

The Dutch composer Jurriaan Andriessen grew up in a well-known family of artists. He was the son of Hendrik Andriessen en the brother of Louis Andriessen.
His extensive oeuvre consists primarily of incidental works for films, plays and radio plays. As resident composer and musical consultant of the Haagse Comedie he composed music for the plays of the company. He also wrote many works for the radio and he directed concert performances for television. Moreover, he received commissions to compose for state celebrations such as the coronation of Queen Beatrix and the state visit of the king of Thailand.
Besides incidental works, Andriessen wrote works for orchestra and brass band and chamber music, often meant to be performed by amateurs. He drew inspiration from amongst others French composers from the first half of the 20th century, folk music from different cultures and American film music.
Andriessen was active as a jazz pianist and composer of popular musi under the pseudonym Leslie Cool.
