Alois Mühlbacher

Alois Mühlbacher

Alois Mühlbacher, born in Hinterstoder in 1995, caused quite a stir as a soloist with the St. Florian Boys' Choir with spectacular CD recordings (including Queen of the Night, Zerbinetta, and songs by Gustav Mahler). Franz Welser-Möst ("I have never heard such a boyish voice in my life") and Joan Holender engaged the fifteen-year-old at the Vienna State Opera (as a young shepherd in "Tannhäuser"), later he also sang the oberto in "Alcina" under the direction of Marc Minkowski, of which a live recording has been released on DVD at Arthouse. In the "Magic Flute" recording under Rene Jacobs he is the 1st boy. He made concert tours all over the world with the "Sängerknaben", to whom he is still committed today. As a soprano soloist, he has enjoyed great success on the podiums of international concert halls (among others, he sang the soprano solo in Mahler's 4th Symphony in the Salzburg Festival Hall; Role of Yniold in "Pelleas et Melisande"). He was a soloist at "Christmas in Vienna", a 30-minute documentary about him was broadcast on the ORF and in ARTE. His career in the countertenor continued almost without interruption: he sang at the opening gala of the new opera house Vladivostok, at the New Year's Eve concert of the Mozarteum Orchestra at the Grand Festspielhaus, in operas (Orlofsky in the "Bat", Apollo in "Apollo et Hyacinthus") and Oratorios (Daniel in "Susanna" under Martin Haselböck in the large Musikvereinssaal). In December 2016 he was an alto soloist in Bach's Christmas Oratorio (Munich, Herkulessaal) and in the B Minor Mass (Großer Musikvereinssaal). As a result of many years of collaboration with the ensemble Ars Antiqua Austria (Gunar Letzbor), his voice from the age of choirs until today is documented on numerous CD recordings with predominantly Austrian baroque music. In addition, to date four solo CDs by Alois with Franz Farnberger have appeared on the piano (opera and operetta arias, songs, duets). His special love is also the song song. Together with his piano partner Franz Farnberger he has already given numerous recitals (among others in the Crystal Hall Waidhofen, at the Bruckner Days in St. Florian and in the Brucknerhaus Linz). His unmistakable, supple and versatile vocal sound also enables him a broad repertoire that is unusual for countertenors, from Schubert to Richard Strauss. In addition to his vocal work, he completed acting studies in Linz.
