David DQ Lee

The Canadian counter-tenor DAVID DQ LEE (Whitey) studied at the Vancouver Academy of Music and moved in 2006 to Berlin, where he started his European career. One year later, he sang the title role in Radamisto in the Hamburgische Staatsoper. His repertoire includes roles like Arcane in Theseus (Komische Oper Berlin), David in Belshazzar (Halle), Apollo in Death in Venice (Hamburg), Tolomeo in Giulio Cesare (Düsseldorf), Ruggiero in Orlando furioso (Frankfurt, Santiago de Compostela, Beaune) and the title role in Orlando (Zürich, Versailles, Toulouse, Rennes), and appearances in concertante performances of Vivaldi’s Orlando furioso (Concertgebouw Amsterdam) and Händel’s L’Allegro, il Penseroso ed il Moderato (Utrecht). David DQ Lee won awards at the Francisco Viñas International Voice Competition, the George London Competition, the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions and the Queen Elisabeth Competition. More recently, he has sung Onulfus in Telemann’s Flavius Bertaridus, König der Langobarden (Hamburg), Hamor in Jephtha (Moscow, Vienna, Paris), Ottone in L’incoronazione di Poppea (Cologne), the title role in Telemaco ossia l’isola di Circe (Nierenberg and Vienna with René Jacobs), Prinz Orlowsky in Die Fledermaus (Seoul) and Oberon in A Midsummer Night’s Dream (Komische Oper Berlin).
