"If music be the food of love, play on!" - William Shakespeare

Luka Okros

Overall winner by unanimous decision at the International Piano Campus 2015 in Pontoise, Georgian Luka Okros (born in Tbilisi in 1991) also won the Public Prize and the Theatre 95 Prize. Through his profound sensitivity, his fluid, natural playing and the charm of his perso- nality, he impressed the members of the jury, who sensed in him an artist of rich potential, going so far as to compare him to a young Murray Perahia. After training at the Central Music School in his home town, at the age of nine he was offered a place at Vladimir Spi- vakov’s Foundation for gifted children in Russia. In 2008 he joined the Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatoire to study under the eminent teacher Sergei Dorensky, whose former pupils include Denis Matsuev and Nikolaï Lugansky. By winning the Scholarship he moved to Lon- don to study at the Royal College of Music, to work with Norma Fisher. At the age of 18 he had a debut recital at the Carnegie Hall. Luka has already garnered several top prizes: in Ukraine (Vladimir Horowitz International Piano Competition 2010), in Kazakhstan (2011), in Spain (Iturbi Prize International Piano Competition 2015), in France (Gold Prize Internatio- nal Competition Piano Campus), in Morocco (Morocco Philharmonic Orchestra Interna- tional Piano Competition 2016), and recently in Hong Kong (Hong Kong International Piano Competition 2016). This accomplished and promising young alchemist turns all he touches into gold, and his first CD dedicated to major works by Robert Schumann (released by DiscAuverS) bears the hallmark of a remarkable maturity.
