Stefan König

The Stephan-König-Trio

was founded in 1987. In the first years, in which primarily compositions of Stephan König were featured, Thomas Moritz (double bass) and Jörg Steffens (percussion) were the steady partners of Stephan König. Since then, the line-up has changed several times. Depending on the particular musical orientation of the projects, one could hear Stephan „Grete“ Weiser or Tom Götze on bass, as well as Wolfram Dix or Frank-Endrik Moll on percussion. Stephan König is playing together with Thomas Stahr (double bass) and Wieland Götze (percussion). Stephan König was born in 1963 in Berlin. After attending the Special School for Music in Halle (Saale), he studied piano, composition, and conducting at the Music Academy “Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy” in Leipzig. Since completing his studies, he has been active as a freelancer. In addition to his teaching at the Leipzig Academy of Music and Theater, he appears regularly with well-known orchestras in famous venues and has worked for numerous CD, radio, and television productions, for example his own piano concerti appeared on the label auris subtilis. He has concertized in Asia, Central America, South America, and several European countries. He is an award-winner in multiple national and international competitions.
He was commissioned by the Gewandhaus Leipzig, Leipzig Opera, the Academic Orchestra of Leipzig, the St. Thomas Choir of Leipzig, the MDR, among others. He worked together with Georg Christoph Biller, Uschi Brüning, Richard Galliano, Kathrin Göring, Nigel Kennedy, Ines Agnes Krautwurst, Jochen Kupfer, Lyambiko, Ulrike Mayer, Tobias Morgenstern, Anca Parghel, Martin Petzold, Florian Poser, Fermín Villanueva, Sebastian Weber, Angelika Weiz, Pascal von Wroblewsky, Wolfgang Krause Zwieback, the Leipzig String Quartet, ensemble amarcord, and many others. Since 1998 he has directed the “LeipJAZZig-Orkester”, founded by him, and since 2007 the Chamber Orchestra ‘artentfaltung’.
