State of Monc operates on the thin line that divides electronic music from a more acoustic approach. Integrating the rigid sound of computers with the flexibility of acoustic instruments. Acknowledged by an increasing fine establishment of international jazz trend watchers State of Monc is seen as the Dutch answer to Eric Truffaz - 'however more colorful', and Nils Petter Molvaer - 'only more exciting and raw' (Edo Dijksterhuis - NRC Handelsblad). Inspired by legendary experimental jazz musicians as Miles Davis, core State of Monc contributors, which are Arthur Flink (trumpet), Hielke Praagman (button pusher and knob turner), Kasper Kalf (double bass), Paul de Jong (guitar) and Arthur Lijten (drums), presented their debut album 'Hand to Mouth' last year, which was a "hot bun" for weeks in the hottest music stores everywhere. Germany has Jazzanova, France has St. Germain and the Swedish have Koop, and we, we have State of Monc.
(Geert Jan Jacobs, OOR) Not alienating the traditional jazz purists, State of Monc may also appeal to a new breed of music enthusiasts who grew up with dance music as we know it since the early 90's. Great stuff!
(Plastiks) Comparable (foreign) acts often lack the hectic power that this band is rendering. Exciting, sizzling and certainly unique.
(Arjan van Sorge, Soft Secrets)

Theo Maasen & Monsieur Dubois

03-11-2009

image Theo Maassen, currently one of the hardest boiled stand-up comedians from The Netherlands, has chosen the Monsieur Dubois track "Das Banck" as opening score for his new show called "Without Mercy" ("Zonder Pardon"). The track, taken from the album "Ruff" and composed by trumpetplayer Arthur Flink, can soon be heard in the cinema as well, as from November 12th when the movie-adaptation will ...
