About the album

The Best Of 9499’ is a selection of 14 tracks from the NCC’s three albums on A-Records which were recorded between 1994 and 1999 and released between 1997 and 2000. The New Cool Collective, founded in 1994 by DJ Graham B and saxophonist Benjamin Herman, is a loose group of some of the coolest musicians on the Dutch music scene and was the first Dutch jazz band to combine live music (and later recordings) with the work of a DJ. The combination of funky jazz, a great grooving rhythm section and spicy Latin records gave the band its unique sound. During the last decade the band has built a live reputation in the club scene in Amsterdam (Paradiso and Panama), but also at major festivals like the North Sea Jazz Festival (The Hague), as well as concerts with legendary artists, such as jazztrumpeter Roy Hargrove and the electrojazz/ambient act Lamb. In 2001 the band won the prestigious Dutch Heineken Crossover Award.
Also abroad the NCC has established a name due to their successful performances in a/o the U.K. (London: Jazz Café, Camden´s Mix, Messin' Around 4th Birthday; Bristol: Latin Massive), Schotland (Edinburgh Fringe, Aberdeen Alternative), South Africa (North Sea Cape Town). And recently the band returned from a tour through Uganda.
Please note: bandleader/saxophonist Benjamin Herman is well known in the European jazz circuit. He has won many prizes and released several jazz records during the last decade. This year Paul Weller invited him to record on his new album and Benjamin will be part of Wellers upcoming tour.
‘The Best Of 9499’ is a selection of 14 tracks from the NCC’s three albums on A-Records which were recorded between 1994 and 1999 and released between 1997 and 2000. The first ‘SoulLatinJazzFlavoursNinetiesVibes’ was an absolute success and the follow up ‘More!’ featuring Lilian Vieira (Zuco 103) resulted an international breakthrough. Their third record ‘Big’ marked an exciting development: the New Cool Collective Big Band had come to live and also gained enormous popularity in the dance circuit. The record features songs with the legendary singer Georgie Fame and Dutch vocalist Trijntje Oosterhuis and was awarded with an Edison (Dutch Grammy). ‘The Best Of 9499’ presents a fresh and exciting mix of highly danceable soul and jazz, spiced with Latin flavours.   1.
