About the album
Artist: Ilse Huizinga, Erik van der Luijt, Jeroen Rol, Enno Spaanderman, Ferdinand Povel, Ed Verhoeff, Sven Schuster, Steve Altenberg
This is the first Daybreak album by this excellent Dutch vocalist of international stature. She had already made two other privately-produced CDs before, together with her husband and accompanist, pianist Erik van der Luijt. (He has two CDs out in Daybreak's "en blanc et noir" series.) "The Sweetest Sounds" contains songs by the great Richard Rodgers, and its diversity gives a good impression of Ilse's outstanding qualities. She is accompanied by some fine musicians from the local scene: guitarist Ed Verhoeff, saxophonists Ferdinand Povel and Enno Spaanderman, trombonist Jeroen Rol, Sven Schuster on bass, Steve Altenberg on drums, and of course Erik van der Luijt on piano. "The Sweetest Sounds" received some great reviews in the Dutch press.
