About the album

Ann Thomas - Vocals | Erik Doelman - Piano | Wim Kegel - Drums | Erik Robaard - Bass | Jeroen Manders - Soprano & Tenor saxophone

Watching the old musicals in her childhood was Ann’s first encounter with the great repertoire of jazz standards. It was love at first hearing. Unmistakeably a jazz singer, endowed with a fine voice that’s both warm and fresh, a delicate sense of nuance and a natural feel for swing, Ann still treats the standards with all due respect.
In the past year, with the help of producer Chris Ellis’s great experience and expertise on the subject, she has been working on the vast body of repertoire known as the American Songbook, focussing on the known as well as the lesser-known compositions. With her keen interest in lyrics and always keeping in mind that each piece is evocative of a different atmosphere, Ann’s singing will always convincingly carry over to the audience the original intention of a song, while never failing at the same time to add her personal touch. After winning the ‘Jazz Singer of the Year Award’ at the Breda Festival under her real name Anne Thomassen, Ann decided to form her own quintet whose members have been working with each other for many years. It was suggested that she should take Ann Thomas as her professional name and that is how she is now known. Remember the name - it’s going to be famous!
