About the album

Renske’s debut album ‘Waiting To Be Told’ is a dynamic characteristic and shameless personal album that’s full of warm coloured melodies, great hooks and expressive lyrical style. The album contains two bonus tracks that Renske recorded with Perquisite (Pete Philly and Perquisite).
When Renske traded the busy citylife of Amsterdam for a little summerhouse in the middle of nowhere in the winter of 2007, she found her inspiration. “Authenticity is what I strive for”, she says, “That’s why I wanted to go to a place where there were no destractions or other influences, to create a new sound in silence.” With a harddisc full of new songs she returned to Amsterdam. She had intense rehearsals with her band before recording in the fall of 2007.Renske Taminiau - vocals | Floris van der Vlugt - sax Philipp Bramswig - guitar | Ruben Hein -piano | Lucas Dols - contrabas | Bobby Petrov - drums

Renske Taminiau

Renske Taminiau is one of twins. Her sister Caat has inspired her to write. She’s a Dutch, 28-year-old, jazz-trained singer, who graduated from the Conservatory of Amsterdam in 2007. She almost became a doctor, (studying medicine at the university) but changed to music studies, when she found, while she was busy preparing a brain in class, that picking your brains for lyrics and songs was much more appealing than brain anatomy. After high school she enrolled in the Newcastle College of Music, which she chose because it was founded by Sting. She tried to adjust to the 'Jordy' way of life, and left England a bit less naïve after a year for Amsterdam. Taminiau composes, produces and also makes the arrangements for...

Taminiau composes, produces and also makes the arrangements for her own CDs. 'I stick my nose into everything,' is her slogan. This has already resulted in the wonderful debut album Waiting to be Told. She loves to use her creative vision for all the areas involved with her musical art form, from developing the artwork to stage-and light design for the performances.
She is currently working on several projects such as Wicked Jazz Sounds, an established Jazz Group that advocates dancing with a smile to funky jazz-grooves and live jazz improvisation, and Mr. Eart, a German Band from Berlin, that recorded their album in August 2006 'Facts in the Case of Mysterious Pop Murders”, and as backing vocalist for Mathilde Santing’s ‘Basement Bargains’ Tour and 'Under Your Charms' CD, and Brigitte Kaandorp's 'Als de hefst je overvalt' CD, to name a few.
Renske is inspired by artists like Rufus Wainwright, Joan as Policewoman, singers like Lizz Wright, Hanne Hukkelberg, Lesley Feist, Dianne Reeves and Kurt Elling.
Her lyrics are influenced by Joni Mitchell, philosophers like Emerson, and poets like Pablo Neruda, and Ernest Hemingway.
