Back in 1960 the great promoter of Jazz Norman Granz organized another Jazz At The Philharmonic (JATP) concert tour through Europe with the Oscar Peterson Trio, the Stan Getz Quartet and the Miles Davis Quintet. On April 8, 1960 these giants of Jazz gave a memorable concert at the Kongresshaus in Zurich. This Volume (29) contains the concert of the Stan Getz Quartet. This concert recording will probably rank as one of the greatest recordings by Stan Getz. Sit back and just listen and get carried away. A real discovery is pianist Jan Johansson from Sweden whom Getz met while living in Scandinavian countries late fifties/early sixties.
The two other concerts of the same evening (Oscar Peterson TCB 02302 – released as of July / Miles Davis TCB 02312 – released as of August) will follow this CD shortly. An indepth monographie about this Zurich concert of these 3 giants will be published in 2013 by Edition Olms and written by Olivier Senn of the University Lucerne, Jazz department.

Die von Norman Granz organisierte Jazz At The Philharmonic (JATP) mit dem Oscar Peterson Trio, dem Stan Getz Quartett und dem Miles Davis Quintett führte diese Giganten des Jazz am 8. April nach Zürich ins Kongresshaus (einziges Konzert in der Schweiz). Dieses Volume 29 der Radio Days Jazz Series beinhaltet das Konzert des Stan Getz Quartetts. Es dürfte sich um eines der besten Aufnahmen von Stan Getz handeln. Er spielt auf höchstem Niveau wie auch die Rhythmusgruppe, wo speziell der Schwedische Pianist Jan Johansson aufhorchen lässt. Ein Konzert der Sonderklasse von einem der grössten Tenorsaxophonisten des Jazz.
Die zwei weiteren Konzerte des gleichen Abends (Oscar Peterson TCB 02302 – ab Juli 12 / Miles Davis TCB 02312 – ab Ende August 2012) werden in Kürze als weitere CD Veröffentlichungen folgen. Ebenso wird im 2013 eine Monographie über diesen Abend, die Musik und die Musiker als Buch erscheinen. Diese wird geschrieben von Olivier Senn von der Jazzhochschule Luzern und veröffentlicht vom Verlag Olms.
