About the album

The King's Singers continue with this outstanding collection of madrigals from 23 composers including Thomas Morley, John Bennet, Michael Cavendish and Thomas Weelkes.

A collection of 25 madrigals from 23 different composers - from the famous to the obscure - make up this Elizabethan curiosity, published in 1601 by Thomas Morley. A musical dedication to Queen Elizabeth I, The Triumphs of Oriana displays the talents of English songwriters, long overshadowed by their European counterparts, conjuring up an image of an idealised and mythical England of old.

Their work – synonymous with the best in vocal ensemble performance – appeals to a vast international audience. The King’s Singers are admired for their musical excellence and recognised as consummate entertainers – a class act with a delightfully British sense of humour. Their generous spirit and magical ability to move audiences have remained constant since the group’s foundation in 1968.
They have premiered more than 200 new works, including landmark compositions by Luciano Berio, György Ligeti, Krzysztof Penderecki, Toru Takemitsu, John Tavener, and most recently Eric Whitacre, James MacMillan, Francis Pott, Gabriela Lena Frank and Jake Heggie. They have also commissioned arrangements of everything from jazz standards to pop chart hits.
The King’s Singers are double Grammy® award-winning artists, honoured for their Signum Classics release, Simple Gifts, and again for their contribution to Eric Whitacre’s Light & Gold album on Decca. In June 2013 they were chosen as one of only two vocal ensembles to enter the Gramophone Hall of Fame, honoured for their unique discography of over 150 albums.
