About the album

The band name, Flüstertüte, German for megaphone, is a statement in itself! It's also the perfect verbal description for what this young trio serves up (Lukas Pfeil, tenor sax and MC; Anselm Krisch, keyboards and Stefan Höfele, drums). On five of the album's tracks, they are joined by Benni Jud on electric bass, and Justus Heher on trombone to form a quintet. Flüstertüte have succeeded in creating a new musical category: Ü-musik!

On Umlaut, their second album together, the two leading composers Luke Pfeil and Anselm Krisch have created something which can only be termed a great success.

This is groove-accented jazz from the here and now, with elements of hip hop, funk und latin. This is where expansive keyboard and synthesizer sounds meet resonating drum beats. The weaving saxophone lines emphasize, the trumpet accentuates, and the bass guitar goes deep down and powerfully rebels away. Clever rap passages excite the ear and bind this medley into a unique musical signature.

These are intelligent sounds that stimulate the nerves and animate you into movement. They feed the spirit without becoming overly cerebral, lift your mood without dumbing down. Sophistication at its best!

Or to put it simply, Ü-Musik, as the artists from Flüstertüte describe their own music and art. An amalgam of "Unterhaltungs" (entertaining) and "ernst" (serious) music – also to be understood as a critical cross-reference to the distribution practices of copyright collecting agencies since the beginning of the 20th century. And of course, U E = Ü. There we have it, the wonderful German umlaut! The cult symbol for Flüstertüte suitably honoured here as an album title.
